Advantages and disadvantages of nephelometric measurement of serum lipids.

چکیده
Several technical difficulties diminish the usefulness of serum triglyceride estimation by the method of Stone and Thorp [C/in. Chim. Acta 14, 812 (1966)]. An artificial and somewhat unstable material is used in the standardization. Falsely elevated readings caused by scratched cuvettes are a frequent problem. Conventional quality-control procedures cannot be used because stable preparations are not available. Specimen stability is a greater problem than with conventional chemical methods. In spite of these difficulties, the method can be useful, if its limitations are recognized, in measurements made on nonfasting individuals.

متن کاملLipid profile in relation to dietary calorie intake and anthropometric measurement of healthy women taking part in Shiraz diabetes screening test
Background and aims: It is well known that dyslipidemia is related to cardiovascular disease, dietary aspect and obesity play an important role in CVD risk factor. In the present study, we investigated the relationship between calorie intake, anthropometrical parameters and serum lipids in apparently healthy women. Methods: The subject were 90 healthy wom...
متن کاملHigh-Density Lipoprotein Measurement Methods: From Precipitation to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
Introduction: Extensive research suggests a common hypothesis regarding the protective role of total high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) against cardiovascular disease (CVD). This hypothesis indicates an inverse relationship between CVD and high HDL-C levels. Various mechanisms, such as reverse cholesterol transport, besides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant functions, indicate HDL-C a...
متن کاملOptimizing nephelometric measurement of specific serum proteins: evaluation of three diluents.
Three diluents were studied, to determine which is the best for the automated immunochemical measurement of specific serum proteins. Nine serum proteins (orosomucoid, a 1-antitrypsin, a2-macroglobulin, haptoglobin, transferrin, C3, lgG, IgA, and 1gM) were measured in physiological saline (9 g NaCI/liter), tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane buffer (0.01 mol/liter; pH 7.4), and physiological saline ...
